For the first time, Tesla surpassed Audi in global sales in 2024, delivering 1,789,226 vehicles, while the German brand achieved 1,671,218 units, a decline of 11.8% compared to the previous year.

With only five fully electric models – Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck – Tesla achieved this milestone thanks to the tremendous success of the Model 3 and Y, which accounted for over 95% of total sales.

On the other hand, Audi, known for its broad range of vehicles, from compacts like the A1 to luxury SUVs like the Q8, failed to keep pace with Tesla’s growth. Despite offering various powertrain options, including combustion, hybrids, and electric vehicles, Audi did not surpass the volume of its competitor, even with an electric lineup that includes models like the Q4 E-Tron and the E-Tron GT.

Tesla continues to expand its leadership in the electric vehicle market, while Audi is betting on new launches and a specific brand for the Chinese market, called AUDI, scheduled for 2025.

To close the gap with leaders like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Tesla may need to further diversify its offerings, including an affordable entry-level electric model to compete with traditional brands in the premium segment.
